Asilah and Rabat represent major highlights of Street Art in Morocco.  Your tour will be created to meet your interests in Street Art. A close look at Street Art can give you a greater understanding of the current cultural context of Moroccans.  The tour presented here is only for information purposes and to give you an idea of what to expect.  After we pick you up at your hotel in Rabat, we will spend the morning touring the iconic street art sites in Rabat. After lunch we will proceed to drive to Asilah.  Arriving in the late afternoon, you will be taken to your riad with the medina walls. You will have the afternoon and evening free to explore the medina.  The following morning, we will meet you with a knowledgeable guide for a tour of the street art. In Asilah the walls are repainted white each late spring in preparation for the Asilah Street Art festival, so you will be seeing ephemeral art. During the tour we will point out and stop at one or more great mural sites for your Instagram picture.  After the tour and lunch by the sea, you will return to Rabat.

The tour will be about three hours and will include a stop for coffee or lunch.

Over 4 days we will discover the behind-the-scenes operations of the festival. Your experience will also include opportunities to meet the festive artists as they create mural magic.

A real meeting place for street art, the sbagha bagha festival each year focuses for several days on Casablanca, the heart of street art activities with the creation of giant frescoes in the four corners of the city. A graffiti battle that pits the best artists of the country and internationally against each other, and that also includes dj sets, live music MAP, workshops for children, screen printing, dance, artistic residencies, and exhibitions.

During your stay in Morocco and especially in Casablanca for 2 days we will discover the city and the incredible team of sbaghabaga, It will also be an opportunity to discover how this team organizes the festival. What does it take to support artists spending days painting the city with many beautiful colors? In Casablanca, we will have a member of this team, a resident artist who will show us hidden painted walls in the streets of the old medina and across the city.

After Casablanca, we will move to the capital, Rabat, for 2 additional days to enjoy a visit with the JIDAR FESTIVAL team. During this time, we will learn how the artists are selected and work on the big old walls of the medina. In Rabat, we will tour the city by car to view the outstanding Street Art Murals. The tour will help you discover the whole city and see the climate of being in a very old and modern city before enjoying every night in your riad.

Itinerary


DAY 1: Arrival in Casablanca

Upon arrival in Casablanca, the biggest city of our country, you will be met by our professional driver and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time and preference, we can do some sightseeing that first day.


DAY 2: Casablanca to Rabat

After breakfast at the hotel we will visit the Mosque Hassan 2, one of the largest and most spectacular mosques in Africa, with a minaret of 210 meters. After your visit we will drive to the capital of Morocco, Rabat, for the second night.


DAY 3: Rabat to Chefchaouen

In the morning we will start our Rabat visit with a full morning of sightseeing. Kasbah Of Loudaya is an historic fortified military camp located in Rabat and built in the twelfth century. It is a UNESCO World Heritage.

After Loudaya we continue to the Kasbah of Challah, the fascinating site of a Merinid necropolis located on the site of an ancient city in the present city of Rabat, close to the impressive Almohad ramparts.

We then proceed to the Hassan Tower. In the 12th century, the tower was intended to be the largest minaret in the world along with its mosque, also intended to be the world’s largest.When al-Mansur died in 1199, construction on the mosque stopped and it remains frozen in time.
After visiting Rabat spectacular monuments, we take the road to Chefchaouen (the blue city), through the scenic Rif Mountains.

Your night will be spent in a comfortable riad in the old medina of Chefchaouen.


DAY 4: Free Day in Chefchaouen

DAY 5: Chefchaouen to Fes Via Volibilus and Meknes

After breakfast in your riad in Chefchaouen we will drive through another scenic route across the Rif Mountains.

This day you will see wonderful UNESCO World Heritage sites. A fertile green landscape will show us the way to to Volubilis. Volubilis is an ancient Berber and then Romanized city, capital of the kingdom of Mauretania.

The Roman ruins are extensive and remarkably intact – we will explore them with an expert guide. Then on the banks of the wadi Rhoumane river and near Meknes, we will have an hour visit to the holy city of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun with a local certified guide. We will then continue on our way to Meknes for lunch and a tour. Meknes has been under the protection of UNESCO since 1996. In Meknes we will explore historic sites like the gate of Bab Mansour, Sakkar prison, Hedim Square, and the immense royal stables.In late afternoon we drive to Fes, the cultural capital of Morocco. Night at a riad inside the old medina.


DAY 6: Fes Sightseeing

DAY 7: Fes to Merzouga

We will depart at 08h00 am from your riad and drive to Merzouga. On the way to the biggest sand dunes in the world, we will stop by Ifran, a beautiful city constructed by the French before Moroccan independence. Located in the Middle Atlas, at 1713 meters above sea level, Ifran is a ski resort. We then continue through the forest of Azrou where you can see – and photograph – wild monkeys. We then drive to Merzouga, going by way of Morocco’s apple capital, Midelt, where we will have lunch.

The drive from Midelt to Merzouga is a series of fascinating landscapes, with stops for photos. Arriving in Merzouga, you will meet your camel and guide for a one hour ride through the dunes to your desert camp for the night. Dinner will be served in a large year-round tent, under the stars with local music of the Tuareg people. Accommodations are in luxury year-round tents with full facilities.


DAY 8: Merzouga to Boumalene

In the early morning we share the sunrise over the top of the dunes, eat breakfast and then head back from the camp by camel.

We drive toward Boumalne Dades, stopping by a canal built in the 17 century…which remains in use.

We stop in Tinguir for a walk in the Moroccan grand canyon, named Todgua Canyon. The road winds beside the spectacular Todra Valley, before we arrive at your hotel in BOUMALNE DADES. Your hotel is located in the front of the valley to ensure that you have the best panoramic view of the entire valley


DAY 9: Boumalne to Ouarzazate

From Boumalen to Ouarzazate we cross the Boumalne Valley, to arrive in the Rose Valley. Here you will meet the Berber women who make authentic rose water. The roses and their products are most special, and provide work for the Berber women and men.
After driving 45 kilometers, we will stop in Skoura. Here, in this quiet little village dotted with palm tree groves, you will find one kasbah that stands out from the rest. The Kasbah Amridil, originally built in the 17th century, is one of Morocco’s most iconic living museums. It has withstood the test of time, making it the ideal setting for insights into the ancient traditions of Kasbah life It is now a short drive to Ouarzazate, the second Hollywood and production site of many adventure films. At the cinema studios you can take a tour of all the sets of the Hollywood movies made here. Overnight at a quality hotel in Ouarzazate city.


DAY 10: Ouarzazate to Marrakech

Departure will be 08h00 am from your hotel. On the way to Marrakech, we will visit one of the most beautiful and famous Ksars (fortified Berber village) in the south of Morocco. Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah is a ksar (Ighrem, in Berber) listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO, in the province of Ouarzazate.

You will have enough time to visit the Ksar and have lunch before we begin our drive through and over the High Atlas mountains. At the top we will begin our drive down through an incredible mountain landscape with spectacular views – until we arrive at your riad in Marrakech.


DAY 11: Marrakech Sightseeing

After your breakfast at the riad, it is time to discover the red city with a local certified guide. The guide will take you to the Koutoubia Mosque, Palais Bahia, Jemaa El Fna Square, Saadian Tombs and Majorelle Garden. Marrakech is named the “red city” or the “ocher city” in reference to the red color of a large part of its buildings and houses. At the end of your visit our local guide will take you back to your riad in the medina to enjoy the evening at leisure (?).


DAY 12: Day Trip to Ourika Valley

After your breakfast in your riad we will drive for 30 KM into the Atlas Mountains for walking and hiking among the 7 waterfalls of Ourika Valley. The Ourika Valley is primarily populated by people of Berber language and Chleuh dialect.

Despite its proximity to Marrakech, it is still considered a relatively preserved valley, both in its nature and in its traditional mountain lifestyle. Our lunch will be served next to the big river so we can enjoy untouched nature and Berber food.

In the evening you will be back in Marrakech – after a wonderful day away from city life – to enjoy the night in your authentic riad. (dinner?)


DAY 13: Marrakech to Essaouira

After 3 amazing days in Marrakech it’s time to visit the Atlantic Ocean. You will enjoy the beach life and fresh fish in Essaouira city.

The region of Essaouira was inhabited since antiquity by Berber natives, then by Phoenicians, and then by the Romans.

From the sixteenth century that the site was occupied by the Portuguese, who in 1506 built a fortress and ramparts which still stand. (??) After we reach your riad, you have will free time to enjoy the medina, ramparts, fishermen’s harbor, and the beach.

You don’t need car in Essaouira. Walking is always the best way to discover it.

Itinerary


Day 1

Upon your arrival at Casablanca, your driver will be waiting in the front of the arrival door with a placard with your name. You will begin your drive to Marrakech by the highway, about 2h 30 min. You will be taken to your riad.


Day 2

In the early morning your driver will pick you up at your riad with our local certified guide. You will start your first visit to Marrakech city with a drive and discover the big walls of street art outside the Medina. After visiting some very large murals of street art you will have the option to go into the old city and discover it, accessing the small street to discover the crazy boy’s street art that explains how the Moroccans support their soccer teams through painting their logo and victories, to make everyone remember those wonderful teams. Every city has his own way of supporting their teams. You may return to your riad or continue to explore the old city on your own.


Day 3: A Free Day

If you wish we can arrange for you to visit the: Bahia Palace and the Dar Si Said. Both are a riot of tile work and intricate floral painted-wood ceilings. Then, learn about the Berber culture, and follow their steps along the trade routes from North Africa to the Sahel at the Tiskiwin Museum, and/ or the Jardin Majorelle. An afternoon visit to a local Hammam is always a treat.


Day 4

After your breakfast we will drive to essaouira. On our way we’ll stop to visit the most famous place of argan oil in morocco. and share the experience of making the oil with the berber women. If you wish we can stop on the way by the famous goats in the trees. They climb the trees to eat the argan nuts. After our visit, we drive to your riad located on the beachfront of Essaouira for a relaxed night.


Day 5

Today is your day to discover Essaouira and see how street art painting can increase understanding of the history of this city. With one of our best local guides in morocco, you will be able to fall in love with the charming Essaouira. From the old medina to the coast, is a short walk full of many beautiful views on both sides.

After enjoying your fish meal in front of the Atlantic our guide will take you back to your riad for relax with a beautiful panoramic view of the ocean from the terrace of your riad.


Day 6

Today is a long picturesque drive from Essaouira to Casablanca crossing many beautiful cities like Safi the capital of Sardine in morocco. In Safi you will discover many beautiful street art murals and discover the city of the story told on these walls. After Safi we will hit the road to el oualidia for lunch. el oualidia is famous in Morocco as the capital of oysters. After lunch it’s time to continue driving to Casablanca through el jadida. Dinner at the hotel or your choice.


Day 7

After your breakfast our driver will meet you to begin the drive to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. 1h 30 min of highway driving along the Atlantic coast. Upon arrival you will check into your riad, inside the old medina and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Your dinner at leisure.


Day 8

After your breakfast our driver with a local certified guide will meet you to start discovering the art of rabat named JIDAR, meaning walls. JIDAR street art festival is the biggest one in morocco. This festival invites all the famous artists of the world to paint on the rabat walls for 1 week. In our visit we will be able to discover all these wonderful street art paintings and discuss their portrayal of Moroccan life.After this visit inside the old and the new medina of rabat we will drive back to your hotel for 1 last night. Dinner at leisure.


Day 9

Today we have a short drive to Asilah. Asilah represents a major highlight of Street Art in Morocco. On arrival we will go directly to your road to enjoy the view of the Mediterranean, and relax in this small beautiful city, for the rest of the day. Maybe you will take a swim at the beach below the medina walls.


Day 10

Today and after your breakfast with the panoramic view of the Mediterranean,we will meet a knowledgeable guide for a tour of the Street Art murals created this year. Asilah represents a major highlight of Street Art in Morocco.

In Asilah the walls are repainted white each late spring in preparation for the Asilah Street Art festival. During the tour we will point out and stop at one or more great mural sites for your Instagram picture. After the tour and lunch by the sea we will be back to the riad for the rest of the day.


Day 11

The day of driving to tanger, and about 14 km from Spain, we will be able to enjoy the city, and see coastal mountains of Spain with the naked eye. Upon our arrival twe will drive directly to your riad to enjoy your stay in one of the best riads in this city.


Day 12

This day is the day of discovering Tangier with our local certified guide. In Tangier we will visit the caves of Hercules. The caves of Hercules are natural caves located about ten kilometers from Tangier in Morocco, at the Atlantic entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar. After this visit we will drive to the oldest minaret of Tangier for a coffee to enjoy the wonderful view of the Mediterranean. Next a small street inside the old medina to see the street art and discover the other half of the stories of this beautiful city; true street art. painted by local people, where everybody tells his story through this art on the walls.

After the visit we will drive to your riad for the rest of the day.


Day 13

After an early breakfast your driver will pick you up for your 3 ½ hour drive to Casablanca. Casablanca is Morocco’s largest city and the capital of the economy. Casablanca is also one of the most famous street art cities in morocco The city is full of magnificent street art primarily created during sbagha bagha art festival. With our local certified guide you will visit this mysterious city. from one wall to another you will be screated during sbagha bagha as mysterious city. from one wall to another you will be shocked how every neighborhood tells his story by painting such beautiful art on the walls. from the famous football team to the biggest actor and actress of morocco, and women helping their children and neighbors. Everything painting tells a story of Morocco and its people, told by well-known artists who adore painting and storytelling.

At the end of our visit, it’s time to check into your hotel to relax for the evening.
